Frequently Asked Questions - In Person Training

In Person Training

Why do I need a personal trainer?

Getting in shape can be overwhelming.  You might be intimidated by weights.  Afraid you’ll injure yourself. Unsure where to begin? And, sometimes even when you know exactly what to do, you just don’t want to do it! A personal trainer can provide motivation, expertise, creativity, and accountability. I'll push you to do more than you ever thought you could.

Why can’t I do this on my own?

You CAN do this on your own. But will you?

Look, even trainers need trainers. There’s no substitute for having someone create a program specific for you, push you to do more than you’d do on your own, and keep you accountable and consistent.  That’s the difference between reaching your goals and falling short.

What qualifies you as a Personal Trainer?

I'm certified through the National Academy of Sports Medicine as a Certified Personal Trainer & Fitness Nutrition Specialist.  I’m a former Equinox Tier 3 Trainer, and a 2x NPC bodybuilding medalist (silver and gold).  Other certifications include:  Kettlebell Athletics Level 1, SFG Kettlebell Certification Level 1, PRONatal Fitness: Training for Birth and Beyond, Certified Functional Strength Coach Level 1, CPR & First Aid.  What can I say — I just love this stuff.

Why should I pick you?

Read some Testimonials here. And if you want to talk to a current client, let me know! I’m happy to arrange it.

How does it work?

Your first session is complimentary. I’ll take you through an assessment, and get an idea of your starting point. We’ll talk about your goals, commitment level, current routine, any injuries, etc… AND, we’ll make sure you get a workout in! After that session, you decide what level of commitment you’re ready for. As soon as you purchase sessions, I’ll start work on your training program – specific to you and specific to your goals.

How important is cardio vs weight training?

You need both. You need cardio for heart health and brain health. But you need weight training for your muscles and bones — especially as we age.  And especially for women, the older we get, the more muscle and bone we lose. But that process can be slowed down (even reversed) with resistance training. And, who doesn’t want to feel strong and capable in their own body?

How much is it?

Sessions are $120 per single session. Packages are available, please see the Services page for details.

How long are the sessions?

Just long enough!  (50 minutes.)

Where do we train?

I train out of a sweet little personal training gym called, Human Hybrid Athletics. The address is 5740 Corsa Ave, #104, Westlake Village, CA.  91362

Do I need to join the gym?

No. Just show up when we have a session scheduled. We train. You feel great!

How often do I need to come to see results?

It depends on your goals. However, a general rule of thumb is no less than 2x/week.  3x/week is optimal (with another 2-3 days of cardio). Depending on your specific goals, it might be more, it might be less.

What if I’m really out of shape?

Then you’ve come to the right place! I'll meet you where you are, and you WILL make progress. It’s not going to happen overnight. How long did it take you to get out of shape?  So… be kind to yourself. Be patient. Work hard. Show up! You just might surprise yourself!!!

Do you help with nutritional guidance?

Yes, I do. Nutrition is just as big a factor in reaching your goals as training is… sometimes more so!

Do you provide meal plans?

I won’t provide you a specific meal plan, but I will teach you how to put together nutritious meals, in the right amounts for you. This will ultimately give you more freedom and flexibility than a traditional “meal plan”.

  • Accountability, encouragement, and support!

You’ll check in with me every 2 weeks with updated photos, measurements, and a summary of how it’s going. I’ll give you specific questions to answer.)

What are advantages to online training?

Online training gives you more flexibility to workout around your busy schedule. You still get the benefit of someone telling you what to do, holding you accountable, and answering any questions you have.  Yet, it costs less than in-person training.

How do I check in?

You’ll check in with me, via the Precision Nutrition app. You'll be able to upload progress pictures, measurements, and an update on how it’s going. In addition to your check-ins, you’ll have access to me should you need it.

What if I have an injury?

Then you’re SOL! HA! Kidding. Injuries happen -- especially as we get older. (Trust me I know). If you have injuries, we’ll work around them. There’s usually still plenty you can do to progress towards your goals.

What if I don’t know how to do the exercises?

If you don’t know what the exercise is, or how to do it, text/email me! I’ll either talk you through it, or provide you a link that’ll show you how I want the exercise done. Often times I may ask you to video yourself doing a specific exercises so I can assess your form and make tweaks.

What equipment do I need?

What equipment do you have? I’ll design a program for you that works with what you have. But, it’s possible I may ask you to get a couple low cost items, like bands, a foam roller, or pull up bar to hang in a doorway.

Do I need to belong to a gym?

It’s not a requirement – but it’s always a good idea. It’ll give you more equipment to play with.

How much does it cost?

$179 per month will get you a monthly training plan, nutritional guidance, and all the accountability that you can handle.

What if I need to cancel after I sign up?

I get it… life happens. If you need to cancel, let me know. I’m happy to prorate you. But just remember this:  when life gets stressful, exercise can help!
